United through Reading
While Friends of the Library are not accepting book donations at this time, Kinderhook Memorial Library is a drop-off site for gently used children's books to support The United through Reading Military Program book drive. This program provides a donated children's book and a DVD to a deployed service parent who reads the book while being filmed. The book and DVD are returned home, allowing children to read along with their parent. Sponsored by Assemblyman Tim Gordon (I-108th), the program is a way to reassure children of deployed parents and to help ease the stress of separation often felt among military families. Currently, more than a million American children have one or both of their parents deployed around their world. Read more at http://www.unitedthroughreading.org/military/
